This image is very dear to my heart. It came at a time when I was doing a School of the Prophets with Gary and Sarah Morgan. We'd just had a lesson on the importance of never prophesying "hatches, matches or dispatches" or births, deaths and marriages.
My very good friend had been trying to fall pregnant for 10 years. In the few months beforehand, she'd been struggling to come to terms with the doctor's pronouncement that she would never have children. I'd felt some of her pain. Then God said to paint her a stork!
I recoiled in my own mistrust of what I thought I'd heard and vehemently argued with God but each time He said to paint a variation of a baby.
Eventually, I very trepidatiously went to my friend to tell her what God had said. I didn't trust my hearing and I sure didn't want to add to her misery. Hadn't she told me of the countless times thoughtless but well-meaning people had assured her she'd have a baby?
My friend didn't react with little more than smile and very few words. I slunk off not knowing what to think but shortly afterward, she told me she was pregnant!
When I painted this work, the background was all black. Later as I happened to be walking past one day I noticed how flat it looked. I grabbed some burgundy paint and applied it liberally! Imagine my astonishment when other people perceived it as a womb around the baby. That wasn't my original intention but it clearly was God's!
It was as if the Father was telling my friend that He held her baby in His hands even in the womb.
